Need advice on how to back up photos

Just curious how people back up their photos. My little macbook has hit it's limit--a bout 20,000 baby pictures (I know, I know, I seriously need to quit). So Jake thinks I should get a hard drive and dump them. I'm sort of backing some of them up on cd's but that takes FOREVER. And I have most of my favorite ones on various places online like shutterfly, costco, etc. But backing them up online takes along time as well. I know I'm not the only one out there that takes way too many pictures of their oh so adorable children. So how do you back up your photos????

I am YEARS behind in backing up my pics-please share what you decide. Burning CD's takes forever (and I hear they don't last forever)-I need to do something before a computer crashes and I am devistated

okay, so i'm a pro (in more ways than one, since i am actually a professional photographer as well), except that i don't deal in mac, so hopefully this still works for you, i got a "mybook" and back up all my photos there. they move over SUPER fast and they're easy to find. I did a bunch of CDs at one point too, but then even ended up moving all of the photos I'd already spent hours putting on CD over to the mybook. It also came in super handy because i dropped on of our laptops enough time to completely total it, and was able to take my external hard drive to the computer hospital and have them move everything from my broken laptop hard drive, onto my external and can still access it (as opposed to a ton of CDs or DVDs). so this is my 2 cents and i can't believe you actually know how many pix you have, i'm afraid to do a count :) you go mama!!!!

Buy one of these. Seriously. CD's are not a good idea - they're too easy to mess up with scratching and stuff. And they can get lost!
What OS do you use? Do you have Leopard yet? Get that and use the "TimeMachine" feature.

I have an external hard drive (cough that i never use cough) but my hard drive crashed on me a while ago so now I put my pictures straight online and I'm going to be busting out the external hard drive here again soon. There is also a way to back-up all the data on your computer online and after the initial back-up I think it automatically backs all the new stuff up like every night or something. My mom knows the name so you could write and ask her.

mozy.com. The first backup can take several days, but then it can be set to automatically back up and only takes a few minutes. It happens in the background, so you can continue to use your computer while backing up. That way your pictures are stored in cyberspace. We don't have a mac, but we have everything stored under "my documents' so anything put in there, such as other documents, will be included in the nightly backup. Make sure....double pretty please...that you do not store your backup in the same geographical location as your computer. I can tell you some seriously sad sad stories.

Listen to Jake! Get an external drive. It plugs into the wall and into a USB port and you can back it up in less time than it takes for you to make dinner for three kids!

Hmmm...you've been a mom for how long now?? About 21 mos. or so?? That means that you take approx. 952 pictures EVERY SINGLE MONTH!! If you keep that up, by the time the kids are graduating high school, you'll have taken over 200,000 photos of them!!!!! Better stock up on external drives when they go on sale! ;)

External hard drive. I have yet to get one but they are great. I make sure I upload my pictures to Walgreens so that at least they are out in cyber world somewhere just in case...
Love the pictures above from a year ago! See you tomorrow.
